*  BAT, Owl & Star Watch 8pm – 10pm

USUALLY HELD IN AUGUST AND SEPTEMBER. Join us on the Bat Boat

Meander and experience the eerie clicking of the bats on our detectors. Follow their flitting, ghostly forms with our torches. Hear the phantom raspberry blower at work. We leave from The Waits and glide upstream by the reed beds of Holt Island Nature Reserve on our way to Hemingford Lock where the bats spend the darkening dusk, gobbling up mouthfuls of insects that swarm above the river. Then we glide further along the beautiful backwater through the water meadows to Hemingford Grey weir, where we meet even more bats but in a darker setting. Even tawny owls and Bar owls come to see what we are up to. If you are keen on bats and evening time wildlife, this is a trip not to be missed. On clear nights we take a brief trip around the stars and planets and galaxies visible in the night sky.
